The resort hotels at the Walt Disney World Resort are split into a number of areas (see sidebar for a resort map with details of where each resort hotel is located.
Most of the resorts are close to either the Magic Kingdom, Epcot or Disney's Animal Kingdom or near to Downtown Disney.
Unless you are planning to spend all of your time in a particular theme park it probably doesn't really matter which area you are in; you should choose your resort based upon the type of resort, the facilities you require and the room rates.
It is worth noting that the Contemporary Resort, the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and the Polynesian Resort have direct access to the monorail; all other resorts are served by either motor coaches and/or water taxis.
Note that as of June 1, 2007 all Disney Resort hotels are smoke free and guests may only smoke in designated outdoor smoking areas. No smoking is permitted inside the hotels including guest room patios and balconies.

For 2007/2008, Disney have five different seasonal rates for each Resort category depending upon the time of year.
Their cheapest rate is known as their Value season rate (low season), their next rate is the Moderate season (mid season) and then they have three higher rates, their Summer season which is used by the Value and Moderate resorts only, Peak season; (high season) and then a slightly higher rate just for the Christmas period known as their Holiday season.
