Themed on the Florida Keys, the Old Key West Resort boasts pastel-colored Victorian style architecture and lush tropical palm vegetation. It represents a small town called Conch Flats.

It is a large resort covering a wide area with 50 different buildings which gives you added privacy but you might need to consider driving to the Hospitality area for meals if you are staying in one of the more remote units.

It was the first of the Disney Vacation Club resorts at Walt Disney World opening in 1991 and has some of the largest room sizes when compared to later developments.

Disney's Old Key West Resort is located south of the moderate resorts, Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter Resort and Disney's Port Orleans Riverside Resort.

Transportation to the Disney theme parks, water parks and Downtown Disney is by Disney motor coach. You can also take a water launch to the Downtown Disney area.

It is less than 1.0 mile from Disney's Typhoon Lagoon water park and about 1.0 mile from the Downtown Disney area. The Lake Buena Vista Golf Course and 36-hole Disney’s Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf Course are both close by.

Rooms/Suites

The 762 villas have either a private porch or balcony and look out on to either woods, gardens, lakes, or waterways. Of all the Disney resorts, the Old Key West resort is probably the least obviously themed as it looks like a typical Florida town!

Rooms are suitable for between 4 and 12 people.

All the villas have kitchens or kitchenettes (Studio villas) with multiple bedroom units from studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom up to grand villas.

Studios are around 359 square feet and will sleep 4. They come with two queen-size beds.

The one-bedroom villas are 942 square feet and also sleep 4. The Master Bedroom has a king size bed with its own master bathroom and whirlpool tub. In the living room there is a queen-size sofa bed and a dining area.

The two-bedroom villas are a lot bigger with 1333 square feet and will sleep up to 8. The Master Bedroom has a king size bed with its own master bathroom and whirlpool tub. In the second bedroom there is a  queen-size bed and a double-size sleeper sofa. In the living room there is either a queen-size or full-size sleeper sofa.

There are also two-bedroom lock-off villas consisting of a studio and single bedroom villa with 1301 square feet and sleep up to 8. The Master Bedroom has a king size bed with its own master bathroom and whirlpool tub. In the second bedroom there is a queen-size bed and a double-size sofa bed. In the living room there is either a queen-size or full-size sleeper sofa.

The three-bedroom grand villas are bigger still at 2375 square feet and will sleep up to 12. They are on two levels unlike the smaller villas and each bedroom has its own bathroom. The Master Bedroom has a king size bed with its own master bathroom and whirlpool tub. In the second and third bedroom there are two queen-size beds in one and two full-size beds in the other. In the living room there is a queen-size sleeper sofa.

All villas have flat-screen TVs in the bedrooms and living rooms.

Dining

There are two restaurants and a snack bar at Disney's Old Key West Resort.

The quick-service Goods's Food To Go offers burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, salads and frozen yoghurts and it also has its own outdoor seating area. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Olivia's Cafe offers casual family style American cuisine with a Caribbean twist such as fried chicken, Conch Chowder, and Blue Lump Crab Cakes. Also open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The seasonal Turtle Shack Snack Bar offers snacks such as sandwiches, snacks, specialty drinks, and beer.

There is also the Gurgling Suitcase full-service bar located near the main pool serving drinks, cold beverages, and snacks.

Recreation

The Old Key West Resort has no fewer than four heated pools. The largest is 149,600 gallons and is located next to the Hospitality House and features a water slide, children's pool, and spa. You can borrow inner tubes at Hank's Rent 'N Return.

The three smaller pools are located in the Old Turtle Pond, South Point and Miller's Road. There are children's play areas near each of the pools.

At the Electric Eel games room near the Hospitality House or the Flying Fish games room near the Turtle Shack snack bar you can play both classic arcade and the latest video games.

There is a fitness center at the R.E.S.T. Beach ("Recreation, Exercise, Swimming and Tennis") complex where you can work out on the latest exercise equipment, use the free weights, relax in the sauna or enjoy a rejuvenating massage at Slappy Joe's Massage Room.

There are also three tennis courts, a shuffleboard court, volleyball court and a basketball court. Alternatively you can go on a 1.37 mile jogging trail, rent a bike or a surrey or rent a variety of water craft including pedal boats, canoes, canopy boats, and pontoon boats.

The Conch Flat Community Hall provides board games, large screen TV, DVD rental, foosball and table tennis plus various other activities.
